OUR MISPELT YUTH
Writes “Wim-Wam" in the ‘Christchurch Press”:
The Speling of New Zillun-ders Seems to be get-ing wers and wers, Proffessers yerely get the Vapers, Marking Exammination Papers; It harroes them with Fere and Wonder. The childish Way the Stew-dents Blonder, And lose their ill-taught Way among The Pittfals of their Muther Tong. It’s not their Hisstry or Jeoggafry But their increddible Orthoggafry That curls the Lip and saps the stamminer Of the unforchinit examminer. The Words they use that don't exist Hake an exarsperating List, And make one cry, God help the Nashun If This is Modden Ejucashun! Their Grammer too don’t bare Inspexion, But Suphers from a like Infexion. Can this callammitus Resault Ese holy Docter Beebies’ Fault? And is our Spel-ing so Parhettic Becors we lern it all Funnetic? Or do the Diejest and the Conimick Produce these Werds that tern my Stommick? Or is Nu Zilan turning out Nu Skollers, who know al about Their Subjick, and the Way to sei it And Everythink but how too spel it?
