Mr. R. Cargill, probation and maintenance officer, who has been on annual leave, has resumed duty at the Magistrate’s Court. Mr. E. P. C. Vaughan, who did not seek re-election as president of the MakirikrF Sports Club at the annual meeting last night, was given a vote of thanks in acknowledgment of his services to the club over the past four years. Mr. W. G. Bason was elected as president. Mr. R. Russell, who is to be married in the near future, was extended good wishes by members at last night’s meeting of the executive of the Wanganui Returned* Services’ Association. Sir Carl Berendsen, New Zealand Minister to Washington, accompanied by Lady Berendsen, will arrive at Whenuapai from Vancouver this morning by the British Pacific Skymaster Arkana. After nearly four years in the United States, Sir Carl is returning for a few weeks for consultations with the New Zealand Government. —(P.A.) Lieutenant-General H. C. H. Robertson, Commander-in-Chief of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force in Japan, is expected to arrive at Auckland on Thursday by flyingboat from Australia. He is visiting the Dominion at the invitation of the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) after taking part in discussions with the Australian Government and service heads.—(P.A.)
