BRAMWELL SHIELD ATHLETICS CONTEST AT WELLINGTON

Leading track and Held athletes from Wellington ana Wanganui competed in the annual home-anci-away competition for the Bramwell Shield, at Wellington on Saturuay. Tne events were held at Hataitai ana, with the ground swept t>y a strongnortherly wind, conditions were unpleasant for spectators. Results were as follow: — The Wanganui team won the G. R. Sanders Memorial for the sprints and the G. F. Faulkner Challenge Cup lor the distance events The Bramwell Memorial Relay Cup was won by the Wellington team. On the aggregate ot the meeting recently at Cook’s Gardens and Saturday's event, Wanganui scored 248 points and Wellington 190. The Wan ganui women’s team scored 110 points on the aggregate to the Tui Club’s 49. C. Doreen ran an excellent race in the senior mile against a heavy gale and S. McKenzie performed well to win tne quarter and half-mile events without undue effort. P. Henderson won the 100 and 220 yards sprints from scratch in lOsec and 22.95ec respectively. B. Jones, a junior hurdlei, won his event by a margin of four yards. The outstanding woman discus thrower was Miss V. Robertson, oi Wanganui, who recorded a throw of 104 ft. 6in., to come within six feet oi the New Zealand record.
