Ratana Celebrates.
The birth of the originator of the Ratana Movement is being celebrated at the village of Ratana and, although the attendance of visitors is considerably smaller than in previous years there are Maoris present from all parts of the North Island. This year no invitations to the celebrations were issued because of the incidence of infantile paralysis but between 300 and 400 Maoris are expected to be present. In other years the attendances have been between 3000 and 6000. This year the visitors cannot ! leave the train at the Ratana station because the line no longer passes the village. Visitors now leave the train at Turakina and are carried to the township by motor bus. Yesterday special church services were held which were attended by three of the Maori representatives in Parliament.
