TRANS-TASMAN YACHT RACE STARTED
(P.A.) Auckland, Jan. 24. Seven vessels,, three representing Australia, three from New Zealand and one from the United States, started in the trans-Tasman yacht race at 10 o’clock this morning, watched in bright sunshine by thousands on the waterfront and from vantage points around the harbour. The wind was light from the south-west and the harbour was dotted with pleasure craft. Today's seven starters, which comprise the biggest entry in the history of the race, are: Australian craft, Kurrewa 111, Wayfarer, Peer Gynt; New Zealand vessels, Rangi, Seaward and Drifter; and the American entry. Pagan. Another entry in the trans-Tasman race, the ketch Te Hongi, arrived from Wellington today after a rough and protracted trip, too late to begin with the other contestants oday, but probably will start on Monday morning.
