Ex-Servicemen In Victoria Ban The Communists

, Recd. 6 p.m. Melbourne, Jan. 24. Amid challenges to fight and general uproar, the Victorian 1 branch of the Legion of Ex-Ser-vicemen decided to expel the Communists. Early in the debate Major- [ General C. H. Simpson, president elect, said he would not accept office until the Communists were I banned from the Legion. The conference passed a resoluj tion that all members must sign a statutory declaration that they were neither members of the Communist Party nor Communl ist sympathisers. i This decision brings the legion I into line with Victorian branch of the rival body, the Returned Ser- | vicemen’s League. In New South Wales Communists can be members of the Legion, but cannot hold office.
