That Wanganui has the second largest acreage in 10 urban areas outside the four main centres is disclosed in a statistical summary recently released. Invercargill has the greatest acreage of the 10 towns and cities listed, its total being 6399 acres. Wanganui is next with 5726 acies, Nelson has 4966 acres, Palmerston North 4851 acres, New Plymouth borough 4132 acres and Hamilton 3740 acres. The populations of these areas is given as Invercargill 29,300, Palmerston North 29,200, Hamilton 28,400, Wanganui 27,100, New Plymouth 22,000, Hastings 21,900, Napier 21,600, Timaru 20,600, Gisborne 18,000 and Nelson 17,600. .
