WANGANUI ATHLETES WILL BE IN ACTION OVER THE WEEK-END

Plenty of competition with other centres, as well as among themselves, to supplement an intensive training schedule, has resulted in the many Wanganui athletes and track cyclists reaching a peak of fitness and performance this summer. The enterprise of Wanganui Amateur Athletic and Cycling Association officials, and the keenness of the athletes themselves should be rewarded today when a select team of three will compete at a track and field meeting on the Basin Reserve, Wellington. Sprinter P. Henderson, who has done the 100 yards in even time, will also tackle the 220. S. McKenzie, who would surely have been among the Dominion's top-flight halfmilers had the war not intervened, is the second member. Third member of the team is R. McPhun. After only nine weeks In the sport he has developed wonderfully to better 10ft. 6in. in the pole vault. McPhun is making the trip to Wellington for the experience he will undoubtedly gain in competing against the Australian, Peter Mullins. Mullins recently set a hew Australasian decathlon record and is expected to set a new high in the pole vault today. In the same event will be F. Barraclough, a veteran champion from Taranaki. Mr. J. D. Morgan will manage the Wanganui trio. FEILDING MEETING ON SUNDAY A large group of athletes from Wanganui will travel to Fellding tomorrow and advance this season's programme another stage.
