TAUBER SANG ON WITH ONE LUNG

London, Jan. 12 Richard Tauber, famous Austrian tenor, practised singing with one lung for a month before his death because his right lunb had been deflated and, in the end, the remaining lung, like Caruso’s, collapsed under incessant vocal strain. He was anticipting an AustraliaNew Zealand tour, starting in March. Four days ago. when his breathing was becoming difficult, he said, “I will carry on. I want to sing again,” but he collapsed. His wife, Diana Napier, was at his bedside when Tauber died peacefully in his sleep. There were no words of farewell. Tauber sang Lehar’s "You Are My Heart’s Delight,” 10,000 times in several langauges, including Arabic. The song sold 1,500,000 records and 1.250,000 copies of sheet music in Britain alone.
