Two special awards were made yesterday in the North Island Gladiolus Show and the Wanganui Horticultural Society’s annual gladiolus show which were held in conjunction at the Drill Hall. The Dominion Gladiolus Federation's title of “second day champion ’ was won by an Aotea Roa exhibited by T. Carroll. New Zealand raised, it was considered an excellent bloom of its variety. Chief merit of this ex-hibit-was its well balanced spike, and indeed, it was one of the best in the show in this respect. Wanganui Champion. Second day champion honours, of all blooms displayed by the Wanga nui Horticultural Society, went to A, W. Larsen's “K. M. Triumph.” Apuariuiu Society Award. An outstanding exhibition of its multi-coloured fish of many varieties earned a further special award, this time for the Wanganui branch of the Aquarium and Water Garden Society. This award covered the members’ display as a whole. Public demand for various strains of gladiolus at the show was of fair proportions. That most of the people seeking new varieties for their gardens had advanced taste and experience, was revealed by their preference for “pure” types, although unusual and smoky classes were available.

New types of gladiolus command prices ranging from fl to £l5, and commercial growers anticipating that the bulk of orders will arrive later, when persons attending the show hav.. sorted over their notes and made final choices.
