PROGENY OF NIZAMI WINS BIG MONEY

Sydney, Dec. 29. In the last three months three New Zealand-bred greys, all by the imported sire Nizami, have won £17,000 in prize-money. They are Hiraji, Nizam’s Ring and Grey Nurse, owned by Mr. F. W. Hughes and trained by Mr. J. W. McCurley. Hiraji was bought privately, Grey Nurse cost 1400gns. as a yearling, and Nizami’s Ring cost only 65O.gns. Mr. Hughes has since acquired Nizami, none of whose progeny in Australia will be offered until the 1948 yearling sales. The three greys have won ten races and gained two sec- . ends and three thirds in 16 starts. Hiraji won the Melbourne Cup, was placed second in the Caulfield Cup and the Hot-ham Handicap and third in the Toorak Handicap for a total prize money of £BBOO. Nizam’s Ring lifted £6OOO in five consecutive wins in the Flight Stakes, ' the 1000 Guineas, Wakeful Stakes, the Oakes and Mersey Stakes. In six starts Grey Nurse gained four wins and two thirds for £2300 in prize money.
