SUMMER CUP PROSPECTS AT ELLERSLIE

(Special) Auckland, Dec. 28. Feature events at Ellerslie tomorrow for the second day of the Auckland Racing Club's summer carnival, will be the Summer Cup and the King's Plate, the latter at weight-for-age over a mile. In the Summer Cup, run over ten furlongs, Howe, who finished first in the Auckland Cup but lost the honours on a protest, will have an excellent chance, though his excellent form over shorter distances has brought him a sharp increase in weight. Signal Officer and King’s Ransom may also be expected to improve, and good races may be forthcoming from Robin's Reward, Bustany and Foxfable. Sleepy Fox, who won the King's Plate 12 montns ago In a photo-finish with Exeter and Majesty, looks like repeating that success, but he may find the Railway Handicap winner, Great Trek, a tough proposition. Royal Scot has topweight, 9.7. in the Electric Handicap, but he Is a class sprinter. Other events have filled well, and the chances of the following may be highly assessed:— Fergusson Handicap: Angehne, Brown Duke, Forth Bridge. Ponsonby Hurdles: Observatory, Red King, Abaris. King's Plate: Great Trek, Sleepy Fox, Majesty. Summer Cup: King's Ranscm, Signal Officer. Howe (or Bustany). Criterion Handicap. Chubin, Musselman, Regal Gold. Waitemata Hack Handicap: Sweet Nymph, Quick March, Tenor Royal. Electric Handicap: Royal Scot, Contango, Flowerburn. Plunket Handicap: Fortune's Smile, Swift Fox, Cambria.
