TROTTING CUP WON BY SINGLE DIRECT

RECORD TOTE TURNOVER AT AUCKLAND (P.A.) Auckland, Dec. 28. The Auckland Trotting Club’s summer meeting was opened yesterday at Epsom in fine weather before a very large attendance. After overnight and early morning rain the track was in good order. The totalisator handled the record turnover of £170,968 10s, compared with £148,783 on the first day last year, an increase of £22,185 10s. Single Direct won the Trotting Cup | decisively after a spectacular race | from Sprayman and Ingle Belmer. a mix-up before the first mile was reached put Jackie Guy. Black Machine and Heliopolis out of the contest. An inquiry was held and it was found that the mishap was accidental, having been caused by Sprayman breaking.
