Many Lives Lost In Christmas Accidents In United States
New York, Dec. 26. A death roll of 273 marked the Christmas holiday from 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve to midnight on Christmas Day, with highway accidents tak-' ing the largest toll as usual. The figure this year was 171, with 102 deaths from miscellaneous causes. The National Safety Council estimated that traffic accidents for the four- day holiday period will reach 400. Over 30 persons died in fires, including 10 Indians in a gambling shack in Nevada, seven persons in a small hotel in Oragne, Texas, and four others in a dance hall in Fredericksburg, Texas.
