RAFT VOYAGER CALLS AT PIPIRIKI ON TRIP DOWN WANGANUI RIVER
After six days travelling down the Wanganui River from Taumarunui, by raft, Mr. G. H. Hutchinson, a former resident of Wanganui, spent last night at Koroniti. He will resume his jounv.y this morning and expects to complete it by to-morrow. Mr. Hutchinson left Taumarunui last Monday but progress was slow and he arrived at Pipiriki on Saturday morning with only meagre provisions. Restocking, he resumed his trip down river. Twenty-two years of age, Mr. Hutchinson is a strong swimmer. He is a student of Otago University, where he is studying mining engineering. During the long vacation, Mr. Hutchinson has been working at Waihi. He nas had experience at river rafting In the South Island. It had been his intention to reach Wanganui by Christmas Day, and when no news had been received from him by Boxing Day some fears were expressed for his safety. Mr. Hutchinson is a son of Mr. J. Hutchinson, Peakes Rpad, St. John’s Hill.
