C.S. DEMPSTER GETS HIS WELLINGTON REP-

CAP AFTER 25 YEARS C- S. Dempster, Wellington’s cricket captain in the Plunket Shield cricket match against Otago in Wellington formerly of Wanganui, made his first appearance for the Wellington province 26 years ago next Thursday. On Thursday, for the first time he had his Wellington cap to wear. Dempster has been responsible for more than one record-breaking feat in his time. He must also be just about the first representative player to have to wait more than a quarter of a century for his cap. The Wellington headgear, however, was not a cap of invulnerability, as it failed to see Dempster through the first over in the match against Otago. He played one ball (not too confidently) down the gully for a single, and then snicked another in the same direction. It went to the safe hands of the exwicketkeeper K. H. Mills, who fell forward as he took it. Dempster did not realise that he had been caught but, after a consultation between the umpires, the fieldsmen's appeal was upheld.
