Department Defers New Maternity Block For Wanganui

"This is a great disappointto the Wanganui Hospital Board," declared the chairman, Mr. D. D. Simpson (Hunterville), when a letter from the Department of Health, received at the monthly meeting yesterday, stated that the proposed maternity block for Wanganui could not receive ini mediate attention. "The volume of projects being submitted by hospital boards and the shortage of staff in the department unfortunately makes deferment unavoidable,” the letter added. More maternity accommodation was urgently needed in Wanganui and the board had hoped to gp ahead with the new block .’S soon as possible, the chairman said. Sketch plans had been prepared and submitted to the department, which was aware of the position and the need for more accommodation.

On the suggestion of the chairman, the board decided that a deputation wait on the Minister of Health (Miss Howard) in Wellington in the near future.

The deputation will consist of the chairman, the Hon, W. J. Rogers, M.L.C., and the secretary (Mr. K. Harris).
