OUTSIDERS’ DAY OUT AT OTAKI

SERE NIKHTINI MEMORIAL TO FOXELLA It was outsiders' day at Otaki on Saturday, when the spring meeting of the Otaki Maori Racing Club was concluded, for only one favourite scored that being Morotai in the concluding event. Soiae big dividends were hoisted, the most sensational being that of Arvadale in the Otaki i Hack Handicap, the Feilding-trained Arvakur mare returning her supporters close on a century straight-out and nearly a score for a place. Foxella paid nearly a score when he won the Rere Nikitini Memorial,' and the Marton-trained Lord Phrosa paid well over a quarter of a century in the Pukekaraka Hack Handicap. Good olace return s were secured for Beau Or and Emerge. The weather was line and there was a large attendance, but the totalisator turnover, though larger than on the first day. again showed a decline, the amount handled being £69,198 10s, as against £80,550 last year. The total for the meeting was £134,474,1 a decrease of £lB.lBl 10s compared with £152,655 10s handled 12 months ago. The track was easy after heavy overnight rain and the going was a trifle holding. FOXELLA ALL THE WAY Outsiders filled the dividend-paying places in th e Rere Nikitini Memorial, in which the hot favourite, Sakuntala, failed to get into the picture. Foxella jumped out smartly with Lord Theio, and after the latter had been indulged in the lead from the six furlong s for a few hundred yards Foxella again dashed out in front. He had a break of six lengths on the others at the half-mile, where Lord Theio, Ngakoti, Emerge. Delinquent, Sheilwyn and Sakuntala were his nearest attendants. Given a breather crossing the top, Foxella finished on to win by three lengths from Lord Theio, who was a neck in front of Emerge. Sheilwyn was fourth, just ahead of Silver Rod, and in clos e attendance were Argumentative, Delinquent, Ngakoti, Gay Stroller and High Order, with Sakuntala next. SPRINT TO LADYSHIP Omit was favourite for the Waiorongomai Handicap but could not do better than third behind tjie highpriced Foxbridge filly Ladyship and an outsider in Po Marama. Carmelita and Specialist missed the jump-out, Omit soon showing out from Iron Duke, Merry Robin, Aiderman. Ladyship, Theio Light and Gay Corrie. Po Marama and Ladyship moved up to join Omit, crossing the top, the trio being in line ahead of Aiderman and Merry Robin, and in the run home Ladyship drew out to win by three lengths from Po Marama, who was two lengths ahead of Omit. Carmelita finished on into fourth place, ahead of Merry Robin, and then came Treasure Tee, Gay Corrie and Aiderman. EASY FOR MOUTOA LORD Kept under restraint while Kahuraponga and Prince Wheriko had turns in the lead, Moutoa Lord ran up to the pacemakers in the final stages of the Puketoi Hack Hurdles to score a comfortable win. In front of the stands, Kahuraponga, who was the favourite, had a “life,” but he led into thp back stretch from Moutoa Lord and Prince Wheriko. The last-named then pan into the lead and showed the way round the home turn to Kahuraponga and Moutoa Lord, who then ran to the front to win easily from Prince Wheriko, who beat Kahuraponga by a length and a-half. Serjeant Jack was almost on terms wit?' the favourite, and then came Walk Off and Incident, with the rest of the field at intervals. DOUBLE FIGURES FOR THE RIP Th e Trentham-trained The Rip accounted for the favourite, Nullah, in the Manuao Trial Plate No. 1. At the end of a furlong Lady Barrington led from Mvfox, Reveller, Cheery Lass, Nullah, Sly Robin. Lady Myrtle. Flying Faye and The Rip, but the last-named rapidly improved his position to follow Lady Barrington into the straight, with Myfox, Cheery Lass Lady Myrtle and Nullah handy. Nullah came through in the final stages but failed by a head to catch the little-fancied' Th e Rip Lady Myrtle was two lengths back, just ahead of Myfox and Lady Barrington. Flying. Faye lost her rider. IX) RD PHROSA AT A PRICE The Marton-trained Phaleron Bay gelding Lord Phrosa came from a long way back to snatch victory in the Pukekaraka Hack Handicap and return his few supporters the best part of a third of a century. The early leaders were Celebration, Haughty Bov, Master Roe, Veine d’Or, Tribute and Tahli, but before they reached the straight Clare's Pal and Beau Or had headed Celebration. The trio were then joined by Tahli, but in the last 100 yards Lord Phrosa dashed through on thp rails and beat Clare's Pal by a nose, with Beau Or half a head away and Tahli almost in line. Then came Celebration, followed by Haughty Boy and Lady Oratory, who x got away badly. WINNER FROM AV APUM Strongly supported, the Awapun:1 rained Torrent beat another wellbacked candidate in Romantic in the Manuao Trial Plate No. 2. Revelga gave a lot. of trouble at the barrer. Tlelenelte and Romantic led out from Torrent, Paper Ruffle, Reveller and Gay Stitches. Torrent followed Romantic into the straight and then beat, him home by a neck with Gay Stitches three lengths back, ahead of Paper Ruffle, Beguile and Tote Odds.

THUMPING DIVIDEND Blue Hussar, favourite for the Otaki Hack Handicap, let his supporters down badly and the well-backed Wanganui candidate .The Pagan was narrowly beaten into third place by Arvadale and Belle Anita., The Pagan was taken nto the lead half a mile from home and was followed into the straight by Belle Anita, Idle Along, Grey Plume, Desert Sand and Arvadale. Belle Anita was on terms with The Pagan a furlong from home but Arvadalp finished fast from the rear to win by a head from Belle Anita, who was a nose in front of The Pagan. Gay Joy and Idle Along were in close attendance. CONSISTENT MOROTAI Installed favourite for the concluding event.. Morotai carried her backers through in good style. Hunch and Home James were the early leaders but at the half-mile Ratene had gone to th e front, followed by Morotai, Gaystock, Timsah, Commercial and Middoon. ’ Morotai was actually first into the straight from Ratene, Gaystock and Timsah and she ran on 'solidly to win by three lengths from Te Ranui, who got up to beat Middoon for second place. Ratene was a close fourth, ahead of Timsah and Blue Hussar. Details of results:— PUKETOI HACK HURDLES. (Of £350; 1J miles.) 2/2— Moutoa Lord, 11.2, W.
