ALLEGED CATTLE THEFT

MAN’S NAME WITHHELD IN MEANTIME

A charge of alleged theft of 13 head of cattle valued at £lO4, on September 23, was preferred against a man whose name was suppressed in the meantime in the Magistrate’s Court, Wanganui, yesterday. The cattle were stated to be the property of Cecil John Check, and others.

Detective-Sergeant J. K. Robertson represented the police, Mr. B. C. Haggitt appeared for the accused. On the application of the police the accused was remanded until Wednesday. Detective-Sergeant Robertson said it was expected that witnesses would be available then, and that the case could be heard on that date. Bail was allowed, the magistrate (Mr. J. H. Salmon) fixing the sureties at £lOO in accused‘s own recognisance' with another at £lOO.
