CUTS IN BRITISH ARMED FORCES
REDUCTIONS “ALL ALONG THE LINE”
Recd. 7 p.m. London, Oct. 3. Cabinet yesterday, after discussions with the service chiefs, decided to make cuts in the forces to save many millions annually. The details will be announced when Parliament reassembles.
This is reported by both the “Daily Mail'' and the "Daily Express.” They say the heaviest cuts will fall on the Army. The naval strength is not likely to be seriously affected, but economies may be made by putting some overseas bases on a "care and maintenance basis.'
“Th e Government has by no means made the last announcement on reduction of the armed forces,” said the Paymaster-General <Mr L. H. Marquand) in a speech today. “Our withdrawal from Palestine must eventually result and from our decision to put the matter to the United Nations we shall be withdrawing all along the line.”
