“ALICE IN WONDERLAND” AS DISNEY VEHICLE
Walt. Disney says that he is now confronted with the need to make his most difficult ' decision in preparing his 3,500,000-dollar version of “Alice in Wonderland.” The question is, shall Alice be a real child in the picture or not? “I’ve been arguing with myself about this for many months,” said the film cartoonist. “Right now I'm disposed to produce the entire feature with drawings using the wellknown Tenniel illustrations as a basis. It will be a tremendous job, for we shall have to do every one of many thousands of drawings in detail. face, dress, hair and all the other items to be shown, and our best artists will have to give endless months of time to it. We cannot treat Alice like a cartoon character. She has to be more realistic and believable. We had a somewhat similar problem in 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.’ But this will be a bigger one.”
Meanwhile Disney is still exploring the idea of presenting Alice by means of live action. What has caused him, at least, tentatively, to decide against it is his inability so far Io get the right child for the role.
