PRIVATE PLANE AND OCCUPANTS SEARCHED BY CUSTOMS

Recd. 10.30 p.m. Sydney, Oct. 2. Customs officers delayed the departure of a private Lockheed Lodestar plane, owned by Mr. Gregory Board, for 31 hours at Mascot aerodrome, Sydney, today while they gave the plan e and crew an intensive examination.

FouV crew members of the plane, which was bound for Singapore, were questioned by the Customs men for periods up to li hours, and alleged they were asked questions about their past, and what they intended to do in Singapore. Mrs. Board was searched hy a policewoman, who examined her clothing meticulously and even went (through her hair. I Every* article was removed from ;suitcases in the plane. Bundles of dirty laundry wer e examined and a box of apples was unpacked by two searchers. Then the searchers went through the plane, examining and marking with red chalk every nart capable of carrying contraband. Even the wheel hubs were not excluded. Nothing was found and the plane took off at noon. Last June Mr. Board reported that an Avro Anson he wa s flying to Singapore was fired on by’ the Dutch when he took off from Banka Island without permission.
