SERIOUS SHORTAGE OF SCHOOL CLOTHING

(P.A.) Auckland, Oct. L Concern at the shortage of clothing for secondary school children was expressed at a meeting of the Auckland Grammar School Board of Governors. It was explained that navy blue flannel shirts were particularly hard to obtain, and a stage had been reached when clothing could not be passed on from an elder member ot the family to a younger as garments were worn out. Manufacturers contended that the margin of profit allowed on flannel shirts by the Price Tribunal did not warrant their making them. The board decided to point out to the Minister of Supply the serious shortage of clothing, and ask for a reason lor the position.
