BIG DEMAND FOR HEALTH STAMPS IN WELLINGTON DISTRICT

(P.A.) Wellington, Oct. 1. Sales of Health Stamps in the Wellington district up to noon tod;/, on the first day of the campaign, were more than double the sales tor the whole of the first day last year, and were half last year s total sales for the whole campaign. This morning, sales amounted to £4551 17s 6d in value for Wellington and Hutt Valley, compared with £2lBO for the whole of the first day last year.

It is expected the £5OOO mark will be exceeded in Wellington for the first day. The target lor the local campaign is £15,000. Special stalls manned by members of voluntary women's organisations did brisk business with people who wished to secure first-day covers.

Tonight it was estimated that more than 500,000 of these had passed through New Zealand post ounces. Although the general standard of lix ing was high in New Zealand, children's health camps would always be necessary, and they should be instituted in every country, said Dr. H. F. Gibbs, chairman of the Otaki Health Camp Management Committee, when in company with other speakers, including the Mayor (Mr. Appleton > he launched the campaign at. a ceremony in the vestibule of the Chief Post Oil ice.
