DRIVER OF CAR FINED FOR FAILING TO YIELD RIGHT OF WAY
“I shall treat this case as a simple breach ot the right-hand rule." said Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court, Wanganui yesterday, when imposing a fine of £2, costs 12s, on Melvin Commerer, Parihauhau, charged with failing to yield (lie right ot way at the intersection of Bell and Liverpool Streets on the night, of August 19. Defendant had pleaded guilty through his counsel, Mr. C. F. Treadwell.
Sergeant W. Tumilty, who prosecuted. said a taxi driver proceeding along 801 l Street in the direction of St. John's Hill had to “stand on his brakes" in order to avoid a collision with a rental car travelling along Liverpool Street in the direction of the river. The taxi driver stated that his speed was 10 to 15 miles an hour and that he reached the intersection first. Mr. Treadwell said he tiad been instructed that the taxi was travelling at a fast rate of speed and had to apply the brakes.
