Auckland University to Have Atom Research
(P.A.) Auckland, Sept. 29 Research connected with atoms, though not related Io atomic bombs or the production of atomic energy, will be initiated at Auckland University by Dr. F. J. Llewellyn, newly-ap-pointed professor of chemistry. This quietly-spoken Welshman said lhe research would be “on the hazy borderline between physics and chemistry.” Il concerned the application of X-rays to determine the sizes and shapes of molecules. It represented a continuation of certain investigations begun by Lord Rutherford. As far as he knew, X-Ray methods in this field were not used in any New Zealand university.
