N.Z. FOOD PARCELS APPRECIATED BY “ENGLISH HOUSEWIFE”

(N.Z.P.A.— Special—Copyright.) Recd. 7.5 p.m. London, Sept. 29. Though official references to the flow o£ food parcels from New Zealand to Britain have been made from time to time and national thanks expressed by a leading Minister, there are always many homes in Britain where pens are busily at work writing letters saying how much these gifts are appreciated. At the same time many people feel that they should make some return, and some are actually hesitant when expressing thanks in case it might be thought they were indicating a desire for further parcels. This diffidence was shown in a letter received by the N Z P A. London office from a woman who asked that her thanks might he conveyed but that site be referred to as “an English housewife” instead ot her name and address being given tn case it might be regarded as a hint to- further parcels. She said: “I am just an ordinary housewife with a husband and three children. I would tell you how grateful families are in England to New Zealand. Many times at meals during the war I used to tell my ehlld J®" how thankful they should be to the Merchant Navy for getting our food through to us. Now the bombs and submarines are gone, but we still have a shortage Being human we grumble, but I now point out to my children that if it was not for our Dominions and colonies we should not have butter and many other thing’s on our tE “Not knowing any New Zealanders personally. I feel that We will never be able to say 'thank you' properly, so I want to take this chance of saying ’Thank you’ io thousands of New

Zealanders.” She added that she would like ™ receive letters from New Zealanders, “but no parcels, please."
