FREAK ACCIDENT DERAILS EXPRESS

San Francisco, Sept. 27. A freak accident derailed a nine carriage .southbound Southern Pacific West Coast express early today, but the enginedriver continued for a mile before he discovered he had lost his train. Two employees on the train suffered cuts and bruises.

The enginedriver said, “ the first 1 knew anything was wrong was when I looked back and saw I had no train. I backed up about a mile before I came to the wreckage.” The train was travelling at 35 miles an hour. Railway officials offered no explanation of the accident.
