Archbishop Speaks Out on Banking Nationalisation

The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Melbourne, Dr. Mannix, stated that he was sure that the Communists would be delighted if the Bill to nationalise the banks was passed.

“If the Communists ever get control of this country it will not matter in the least whether there are banks, or only one bank, as Australia will be down and out,” he said. “Some people are talking a great deal about the attitude of the Pope and of the Eishops of Australia, but neither the Pope nor the Bishops as a body have as yet said anything for or against the proposed legislation It is for those behind the legislation to show, if they can. the desirability or necessity for it.”
