RISE OF THREEPENCE FOR CRUTCHINGS AT WANGANUI WOOL SALE

An advance of threepence a pound for crutch Ings, compared with the corresponding sale of last year, wa* recorded at the first Wanganui wool sale of the season in the Opera House yesterday, when a catalogue of 14,000 bales was offered to a fully representative bench of buyers. The catalogue comprised 7500 bales of crutchings and 900 bales of slipe, and the rest was fleece wool offered on behalf of the Joint Organisation. Values for crutchings were right up to the level of the recent Wellington sale, and, taking quality into consideration, might even be considered a shade higher. Bidding was animated I from the start and wool that was well 'dressed was keenly sought, after. This was in sharp contrast to the lots that were poorly turned out and which were passed over by buyers. However. taken right through the range was fairly even with crutchings high. Some of the wool offered on behalf of the Joint Organisation was wool bought as far back as the 1942 season. This wool sold freely and very little was parsed. In most, cased It realised much more than the price at which it was bought in. Extra super lines realised from 221 d to 23Jd and bidding for them was very brisk, the lots changing hands very quickly. Good to super lots brought from *l9d to 22d and average linen from 16id to 18ld. Inferior lines brought from 12d to 15id. The heavy seedy wool was inclined to drag on th© market and brought prices as low as 6d. The prices for fleece wool were considered verv good and to augur wall for the season's clip. The whole sale went with a swing from the start and with animated bidding the wool wan soon disposed of. Little interest in the sale was taken by farmers, and only a few people watched the sale from the'body of the Opera House.
