259 APPLICATIONS FOR SEVEN POSITIONS

(P.A.) Auckland, Sept. 29. Two hundred and lifty-nine appl.cations lor seven positions were received at a meeting of the Auckland Electric Power Board. There were 75 applications for position of assistant-chief engineer w.th a salary starting at £lOOO a year and rising to £1175 by three vearly increments, 98 for assistant secretary at £BOO rising to £lO5O in live years, 30 for assistant supply engineer at £650 rising to £9OO in live years, 28 for. two position as distribution engineers at £650 rising to £BOO in three year's, and 28 for the position of test engineer at £650 rising to £BOO in three years. Applications came from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Eire, Australia and New Zealand, said the chairman, Mr. Irwin Crookes, indicating a large pile o£ letters. It was decided to refer the applications to the general manager. M.r R. H. Bartley. In eonsultat.on with the other chief officers, he will reduce tne number of applicants for each position proportionately and submit a new list to the works committee, which will make its recommendations to the board in committee.
