SCHOOL RE-OPENS (0.C.) Taihape, Sept. 16. The Taihape District High School reopened after the term holidays with rolls of 319 pupils in the primary department and 124 in the secondary department, reported the headmaster, Mr. C. A. Young, at the monthly meeting of the school committee. When the Taihape dental clinic reopened after the school vacation, Miss E. J. Hay commenced as assistant nurse, replacing Miss J. M. Scanlon, who was some time ago transferred to Gonville.

Y A veterinary club was formed in Taihape last year and under its auspices Mr. Leslie, chief officer of the Veterinary Services Council, will address a meeting of farmers in the Town Hall Supper Rooms on Wednesday next on the organisation of Veterinary services. It is estimated that the proceeds ot the levy on produce for veterinary service as far as Taihape district is concerned produces £4OO per annuqj, but unfortunately, because the farmers take little interest in the club, not much of that sum returns to them in the form of service. The Mayor (Mr. E. Loader) told members of the Chamber of Commerce on Thursday night that the names of several persons had been sent forward for approval for appointment a s Justices of the Peace. Utiku. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. E. Darw.H celebrated the fiftieth anniversary ot their marriage on Tuesday. Mr R Lewis, who will take over the position of County Overseer at Taihape from Mr. J. McDonald at the end of September, has commenced duties at Taihape with the County Council.
