WANGANUI RUGBY

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE At a meeting of the Management Committet ol the Wanganui Rugby Union on Tuesday night—permission was granted to the Junior Labour Party League to play a match with a Palmerston Nuui team at Williams' Park cn July 2-.'.th

The Rehabilitation Department and tuc Land and Income Tax Department were granted permission to play a match next Sunday on the racecourse at 2.30 p.m. A letter from the New Zealand Rugby Football Union said that further consideration of an application font Rangi Chase for reinstatement had been given, but that the application had again been declined. MATCH DATES The date for Iho match between Wanganui and Horowhenua at Levin has not been finalised. There was discussion on this question, as Horowhenua had apparently confused the date suggested by Wanganui. It was finally decided to submit August 16 as the only date available. On this day the senior club draw will be arranged so that Pirates will meet Kaierau in a cup fixture. Thus only four teams will be available from which the representative team can be chosen. Mr. S. Ambrose, the sole selector, said that the team would not be truly representative of Wanganui but agreed that a playing Saturday would be saved.

If Hut cwbenua accepts the suggested date the Kaierau v. Pirates match will oe played. A letter was received from the Taranaki Rugby Union accepting the suggested date, August 16, for the junior representative match v. Wanganui at Wanganui. It was decided to send a fourth grade representative team from Wanganui to Taihape, and August 23 was the date suggested. The Taihape junior representative team will play Wanganui at Wanganui as a curtain-raiser to the senior match with Wairarapa, the date for which has yet to be agreed upon. The pi intary schools’ representative team wil. travel to Palmerston North on Aug, st 9. The union decided to make a grant of £5 toward the expenses of the team. All school children will be admitted free to next Saturday’s inter-college match on Spriggens Park.

The following team managers were appointed Wanganui senior team v Rangitikci, Mr. S. Ambrose; senior team to play Taihape at Taihape, Mr. E. Barnett; third grade team to play Rangitikei, Mr. L. Roach; junior representative team at Wanganui next Saturday, Mr. E. Simpson.

There was considerable discussion about the delay in senior teams in taking the field at Spriggens Park and it was agreed that the first match should start at 1.30 p.m. promptly. Mr. W. R. McElwain pointed out that there was a penalty for a team not taking the field at the scheduled time. It was pointed out that although the onus rested on the referee to see that the teams took the field on time, Ihe failure of one team to appear would mean in future that they forfeit the game. At the scheduled time of the start of the main match the clock will be started.
