OBITUARY

MR. JAMES MARCHBANKS. Mr. James Marchbanks, C.M.G., Heretaunga, former general manager and chief engineer to the Wellington Harbour Board, died in the Lower Hutt Hospital on Sunday night. Mr. Marchbanks, who was aged 84. was born in Dunedin. Mr. Marchbanks was appointed chief engineer to the Wellington Harbour Board in 1908 and in 1923, assumed the dual position of chief engineer and general manager, which position he held until his death. During the First World War. Mr. Marchbanks was adviser to the Minister of Munitions, Sir Arthur Myers. Mr. Marchbanks served on the Rugby Union in Otago and in Wellington, and was president of the Wellington Golf Club. Mr. Marchbanks was married in 1897 to Miss May Constance Gore. He has two sons and four daughters. There are eight grandchildren. MR. H. E. SOMERVILLE. The death occurred in Palmerston North recently of Mr. Horace Ernest Somerville, a life-long resident of the Manawatu district, aged 67. Mr. Somerville, who spent the last 13 years of his life in Palmerston North, was in business in Feilding for a similar period before that. As a youth he served with the Woodville Volunteer Rifles and saw active duty with the Second Contingent in South Africa. He is survived by his wife, two daughters. MR. C. F. MOORE. The death has occurred at Palmerston North of Mr. Charles Frederick Moore, Otaki, aged 73. Before going to Otaki about 16 years ago to live in retirement, he farmed in Canterury and Southland districts, then went to the Waihi goldfields, and later returned to farming on land in Hawke’s Bay. He is survived by his wife and three sons.
