WANGANUI TO BE N.Z. HEADQUARTERS FOR MARCHING UNION

Wanganui has become the permanent headquarters for the central executive committee of the N.Z. Marching Union. This was the outcome of the adoption at the first annual meeting, held in Wanganui on Saturday night, of the following Taihape remit: —‘That a central executive committee, with permanent headquarters be set up, whose duties shall be to control al international affairs of the union, define standards and rules of marching contests, assist in the formation of new associations and generally to foster the progress of the N.Z. marching union.” Delegates from Taranaki, Wairarapa, Manawalu, Taihape, King Country and Wanganui, represented 11 affiliated associations. Mr. L. E. Wright, of Wanganui, was elected president in succession to Mr. E. L. Healy, and Mr. C. T. Young was re-appointed secretary. The members of the committee will be one each from Taranaki, Wairarapa, King Country, Wanganui, Manawatu and any other districts where there may be a group of affiliated associations. The following remits were approved: From New Plymouth. "That a standard set of rules to govern girls’ marching be compiled and, when completed and approved, issued to each association by the N.Z. Marching Union for their observance and guidance.” “lhat sponsors of marching teams be allowed the right to march their teams at functions other than those run under the auspices of the N.Z. Union, providing that the said functions are not contrary to the aims and objects of the said N.Z. Marching Union and providing permission has been obtained from the Marching Associaiton concerned.” From Wairarapa: "The Parent Association circularises every affiliated marching district requesting them to forward, before end of September the dates of their individual gala days’ From these dates the parent association to draw up an itinerary for the season and forwad a copy to each association before the end of October. Any alterations rendered necessary by circumstances may be made by Central Executive Committee.”
