QUICK TRIP OF EMPTY SHIP TO NZ FOR FOOD FOR BRITAIN

Rccu. 6 p.m. London, May 5. On account of Britain’s food shortage the passenger cargo liner Port Wellington was directed on a fast voyage to New Zealand at short notice to load a cargo of refrigerated produce for the United Kingdom, instead of making a voyage from England with a ca-go for New York, as has been originally intended. The Port Wellington, which arrived in Wellington on Saturday, did not even wait to load cargo f/r New Zealand, but was dispatched after discharging her cargo from Wellington at Avonrnouth. She left England on May 3, after loading a ballast of sand which will be used to improve Oriental Bay beach. Her actual sailing time was 27 days 2 hours. The ship will load all her cargo of food at Wellington, and probably will sail on May 31.
