MAIN TRUNK MAYORS ENJOY PLANE FLIGHT
(0.C.) May 5 "1 did not know New Zealand was such a rugged country.said Mr. E. Loader (Mayor of Taihape) to-day, describing his impressions of his trip in the Vickers’ Viking air-liner from Paraparaumu In Christchurch and back on Saturday. He said it was de luxe travelling. The wonderfully-equipped plane rode the air as steady as a ship on a calm sea. On arrival in Christchurch the personnel of the plane, which comprised Mayors and local body officials from some North Island centres, were taken for a comprehensive sight-see-ing tour of the city and later were entertained at lunch by Mr. E. H Andrews, Mayor of Christchurch. Brief speeches were made at luncheon by Mr. Andrews and Mr. J. Sawers, general manager of New Zealand Railways. Replies were made hy Mr. F. Purnell (Mayor of Marton> for the mayoral representatives, and Mr, V. Smith (Rangitikei County Council), loi the country representatives. On arrival back at Paraparaumu, Mr. K. Low (Mayor of Te Kuiti), thanked the Vickers’ officials and Mr. Sawers, and officers and crew of the airliner for their courtesy on a memorable trip.
