KENTUCKY DERBY WON BY JET PILOT
New York, May 3. In a thrilling photo-finish Jet Pilot won the Kentucky Derby at Louisville from Phalanx, with Faultless third. The crowd of 120,000 was the greatest to attend a sports event in the United States, and the 1,-53.042 dollars bet on the race through the totalisator set a new high record. Jet Pilot led all the way and just managed to stave off by a head a vigorous drive by Phalanx, who was travelling the fastest of the field at the finish after getting away sluggishly. Thirteen horses started, and the race was run on a slow track in 2.6 4-5
