BOWLING CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS SINGLES TITLE WON BY J. B. JACK (0.C.) Taihape, March 9. Played in fine weather and before a large gallery of spectators the Wanganui Bowling Centre Senior and Junior Champion of Champions Singles was played on the Taihape Bowling Club green yesterday. Clubs taking part were Waimarino, Western Districts, Wanganui and Rangitikei. The winner of the senior championship was J. B. Jack of Wanganui. L. Buckley (Rangitikei) won the junior title. In the results which follow, W. denotes Wanganui, Wai., Waimarino; R. Rangitikei: W.D-. Western Districts. Senior Championship. First round: J. B. Jack (W), 24; W. E. Elliott (Wai.), 19; J. McCullough (R), 33; W. Morgan (W.D.), 13. Second round: Jack 21, Morgan 14Third round: McCullough 18, Elliott 17; Jack had the bye. In lhe semi-final McCullough beat Jack 19-9, reducing him to one life. The final saw Jack beat McCullough 19-15. Junior Championship. First round: Dunkley (R), 17; Francis (W.D.), 16; Toplin (W), 17; Rush (Wai.) 12. Second round: Buckley (R), 18; Toplin 17; Rush 20; Francis 9. Third round: Toplin 25, Rush 12; Buckley had the bye. Final: Buckley 18, Toplin 15REP. TENNIS TEAM FROM WANGANUI Tennis of a high standard was seen when a representative team from Wanganui visited Taihape recently and played exhibition matches. The first was a women’s doubles between Miss Thelma Greaves (top ranking Wanganui woman player’) and Miss D, Blackie and Misses J. Cross and Dorothy Boshcr. The former pair led 4-0, when Miss Bosher broke through with a love game off her service. Playing rnor e confidently, they picked up to 4-5. Their rivals, however, took the next game and set.

A fast pace was maintained throughout in the men’s doubles between M. L. Lampe and M. Rountree and N. Hay-Campbell and ■ Don Gilbert. Lampe shades any player of his age in New Zealand. Rountree ha s recently (with J. Connett) won the residential doubles title. Gilbert (who holds a Wellington intermediate title) has beaten some of the leading senior players this season. Hay-Campbell, fifth ranking player, is well known for his courtcraft. The final score in this game wa s 10-8, the winners being Hay-Campbell and Gilbert. The visitorn were entertained by the Taihape Tennis Club, when opportunity was taken by Mr. H. McCallum, president, who thanked the Wanganui team for its visit. He acknowledged. the support given by Mr. Lampe, the Taihape Club delegate on the Wanganui Lawn Tennis Association for his efforts to assint the club. He ’.hanked him for his donation of £lO 10s to start a pavilion improvement fund.

In reply for the Wanganui team, Mr. Lampe said it was the aim of the association in Wanganui to foster and encourage tennis in country districtn. He thanked Mr. and Mrs. H. Bosher for their donation of a challenge cup tor intermediate tennis, to be played for by association teams.
