POPULAR WIN FOR MARTON RINK IN OPEN BOWLING TOURNAMENT

On a perfect green and in ideal conditions, some interesting and close games were witnessed on the local bowling gren on Saturday when the Marton Club staged one of the most successful rink open tournaments yet Held in the history of the club. Ten local rinks and visiting rinks from Wanganui East, Gonville, Hunterville and Bulls were prerent and competition was always keen. A popular win was gained by the team skipped by O. Brabyn, president of the Marton Bowling Club. All members played consistently ’ well throughout the day to secure four wins and a draw. A tie was recorded for second place by teams skipped by R. C. Bali and W. H. Hamer (both Marton) and on the play-off of three heads Ball was successful. The winning rink comprised: Mitchell, Bending, Sanders and Brabyn (skip). ATHLETIC FOOTBALL CLUB. There was an enthusiastic gathering at the annual meeting of the Athletic Football Club on Friday night. Officebearers elected for the coming season were:—Patron, Mr. F. Purnell; president, Mr. L. J. Tank; vice-presidnts, 23; secretary and treasurer, Mr. K. Kerr; committee, Messrs. H. McLean, D. Hart, K. Coles, R. Girling, O. Mainwaring, W. Towler, J. Jackson, O. Gleeson and E. White; club captain, Mr. R. Whale; senior coach, Mr. T. Perawhiti; junior coach, Mr. J. Jackson; third grade coach, Mr. R. McChesney; delegates to Rangitikei Rugby Union, Messrs. Tank and Kerr. PERSONAL. Miss M. McFarlane, infant mistress at the Marton Junction School, recently resigned her posiiton, following acceptance of a similar post in Hunterville. Miss McFarlane has been replaced by Miss H. Ryan, formerly of Wangr/.ui East School. JUNCTION TABLE TENNIS CLUB. T_he Marton Table Tennis Association will probably be strengthened by another club this season, for at an enthusiastic meeting held at Marton Junction recently, a club was formed, and it will probably affiliate with the Marton association. Club president is Mr. R. G. Brabyn and secretary, Miss B. Wasson, who will be helped by an enthusiastic committee. Tables have already been procured and it is likely that the club will start play about the second week in April. COMING EVENTS. To-night (Monday): No pictures. Annual general meeting of Martin Football Club in Jockey Club rem. Whitehall Productions present from the stage at the Civic Theatre, the dramatic thriller, "Dangerous Corner.” Tuesday, March 11: Bulls Tennis Club’s flannel dance in Town Hall; bus from Marton. Athletic sports meeting on Marton Park. Wednesday, March 12: Annual meeting of Ist. Marton Group of Boy Scouts in Victory Hall. Thursday, March 13: Meeting in Rata Hall to consider the formation of a Rata Ladies' Hockey Club. Tuesday, March 18: Annual meeting of Marton branch of N.Z. Labour Party in Sports’ Hall. Thursday, March 20: Rata Young People's Club grand opening dance in Rata Hall. Saturday, March 22: Monster gala sports carnival on Bulls Domain.
