TRUMAN’S TRIP

POSTPONED THROUGH “DEVELOPMENTS” ! WORLD AFFAIRS RULE U.S. PRESIDENT I Recd. G p.m. Washington. March 7 The White House announced that I President Truman has postponed his • trip to the Caribbean indefinitely [■'because of developments.” I The President has summoned the I Congressional leaders of both parties ! to a conference at the White House : on the international situation, to be ; held on March 10. i The secretary to the President (Mr. ■Ross) declined to elaborate on the . conference, but Senator Taft, chairman of the Senate Republican Policy i Committee, said that he and other members of the Congress, had been i invited to the White House to discuss Greece’s appeal for aid and the pros- • pective British withdrawal of aid to ! Greece.

The Democratic minority of the Senate has indicated its readiness to approved almost en bloc of financial

and other aid to Greece, but with two distinct reservations, reports the “New York Times” Washington correspondent. One was that such aid was not to be used to further British policies in the Mediterranean, and the other was that assistance should not be employed to support a Greek monarchy. The decisions were reached at a caucus meeting at which opposition was expressed to the use of American money to maintain British forces in Greece and to the sending of American troops to that country to replace the British contingents. Congressional sources slate that the postponement of Mr. Truman’s Caribbean holiday was caused by the need for immediate action on the loan to Greece. Mr. Truman will meet Congressional leaders on Monday prior to sending a message on Greece to Congress. It is reported that Mr. Truman plans to ask for a 250,000,000-dol-lar loan.
