MAGISTRATE S COURT BREACH OF ABATTOIR WORKERS’ AWARD. (0.C.) Taihape, March 6. In the Magistrate’s Court, Taihape, to-aay, be.o.e Mr. A. Coleman, S.M., the mspsector o£ awards al Wanganui (Mr. W. J. Koydhouse) proceeded against the Taihape Borouga Council lor two breaches ot th e Abattoir Workers’ Award. It was Claimed that a siaugnterman had not received ine correct amount ot wages and overtime in his employment tor a period of approximately it months. Mr. S. G. Stepnenson, Wellington, who appeared for tiie Borough council, submitted tnat the Abattoir Workers’ Award would not cover the employment, which should rightly be covered by the Local Authority Otticers’ Award. Mr. Roydhouse, for the department, said that the Local Authority Officers’ Award did not c.JiT the employment, since it contained an exemption for officers whose salary exceeded £350 a year. On the other hand the Abattoir Woriters’ Award provided a cover for the type of work performed by the worker and must necensarily apply, because of the socalled bianitet and the fact that three other Borough Councils had been named parties to the. award. Decision was reserved. Invalid Coupons. On two charges involving the inclusion of invalid coupons in meat ration envelopes, and on a charge oi making an untrue statement in regard to the coupons contained in the envelopes, Artnur Gregory, butener, Taihape, was lined ilu on eacn charge. The defendant pleadeu guilty through his solicitor, Mr. Ongley, wno referred to tiie difficulty in whicn the defc-noant operated his business, particularly In regard to the delivery of meat in outlying parts of the disuict. Mr. Ongley mentioned th e tact that the business had been established lb years, thus creating a goodwill, making ,t difficult to refuse the supply of m<at without coupons. Tiie magistrate said he was not unmindful ot the difficulties, but the Rationing Regulations had to be observed. Supplying Liquor to Native.
