PRICES SATISFACTORY AT SECOND INVERCARGILL WOOL SALE YESTERDAY

(P.A.) Invercargill, March 7 Satisfactory prices ruled at the second main Invercargill wool sale. Most classes of wool were fully firm and in some cases showed an improvement on the sound prices of the first main sale in January. The top price of 32d was secured lor a bin lot of choice halfbred wool. Arother lot of almost similar quality offered by a different firm brought 31d. The catalogue totalled 26,274 bales.

More than 60 buyers representing British, Continental, American and local firms operated. The saie was not unusually lively, but a strong purchasing power was maintained throughout the day. As at the previous sale, a fair proportion of lines sold at the Joint Organisation’s price.

All but 1384 bales of the offering consisted of greasy wool. Most oi that wool was drawn irom low country clips of the Southland and eastern Southland. It was mainly well grown but much of it showed effects of wet weather late in the growing season. The offering contained a larger quantity of crossbred and a reduced quantity of finer wools, compared with that on the previous sale. It was noticeable that there was a reduced quantity of early-shorn higher yielding wools.

Passings among the line wools were negligible and even among crossbreds, which made up most of the offering, they were small. The final sale of the season will be held on April 15, when the remainder of the new season’s clip will be ottered. The expected offering will comprise between 13,000 and 12,000 bales.

Everything has been carried out according to schedule in Southland and the season s wool Will be cleared earlier than in most, other centres.
