The boat-party left Atene at 8 a m., and tied up at the Castlecliff wharf al 8.30 p.m.. The scouts felt the strain, as they had taken turns at rowing with half-hourly spells in between. Their new 17 foot standard boat has now arrived in Wanganui ex Dunedin, and the prospects of future river trips are mucT’brighter. The following boys gained their respective badges: Ewen Philips, second class and ccoks badges; Robert Calkin, second class and cooks badges: Bernard Ross, second class and cooks 1 badges; Ronald Whitlock, second class I and cooks badges; Keith Townsend, cooks badge; Cecil Tunnicliffe, swimmers badges second class; Edward Wilson, second class cooks and swimmers badges; David Mead, second class cooks, swimmers and musicians badges. The majority of the scouts have not as yet completed their tests, but indications are that a number f, t scout badges will change hands.
