MASTER DASH SECOND TO ATTLEY

IMPRESSIVE PERFORMANCE AT FLEMINGTON Melbourne, Feb. 23.' In winning the Futurity Stakes at Caulfield Atiley equalled the weightcarrying performances of High Caste and Ajax and also the course record for seven furlongs of 1.24. The owners say that Attley is now prepared to meet Shannon at weight-for-age, and propose to send Attley to Sydney immediately. The duel between the two horses is likely to be the spectacular event of the autumn season. Both are probable entrants in the Rawson Stakes, to be run at Rosehill on March 22. Attley followed La Patrice into the straight, where he took the lead. The New Zealander ‘ Master Dash, who was reported as sore and unlikely to start, gave an impressive performance. The start was delayed 11 minutes owing to his having lost a shoe. He was always a danger and would have done better had he not lost about four lengths by running oft the course at the entrance to the straight. He came again strongly to beat La Patrice for second place by a head, but Attley had the race won. Despite reports on his sore condition, Master Dash was heavily backed.

Though she was checked early in the race to avoid an accident, Amelia won the Woodclitf Handicap by three lengths. She made up for lost ground easily and was doing so well at the home turn that Breasl.ey let her run to the front with two furlongs to go. This was her third win in less than a month. She will be the only filly in tiie Victorian St. Leger. Cherie Marie, who finished second, took a long time to warm up, but produced a strong burst at Denhoti was only a second outside the course track record when he won the Merson Cooper Stakes for two-year-olds by half a head from Chanak. A photo finish was called for. Denhoti went to the front early, and though closely challenged Jed all the way. The Wild gelding St. Razzle, owned by the New Zealander W. T. Hazlett and trained by the New Zealander F. J McKay, surprised everyone—including the jockey, whom he threw after the race- by winning the Stanley Plate. Despite previous poor form which made him an outside chance, he went to the front early and fought off all challengers, winning by four length’. Results:—
