(P.A.) Wellington, Feb. 24. The official attitude to the refusal by mental nursing staffs to accept call-backs on off-roster days as from 7 a.m. next Wednesday was given to* day by the Minister of Health, Mr. Nordmeyer. The Deputv Director-General of ttoe Mental Hospitals Department (Dr. J. Russell) has written to all medical superintendents of mental hospitals as follows: “The central secretary of the Public Service Association has to-day (February 21) sent me letters as per attached copies and which I have iformally acknowledged.” (These letters related to the decision not to accept call-backs, announced last week.) “I wish every member of the nursing staff 1o know that this department is entrusted with the care and treatment of patients. Any action as is indicated in the letter would interfere with such care and treatment. I have n» further comment io make, nor is more necessary. Will you please arrange for all nursing staffs to be notified of my attitlde in this matter?”
