SANSON NOTES

SCHOOL COMMUTES MEETING. Sanson, Feb. 20 Mr. F. C. Collier (chairman) presided at a meeting of the Sanson School Committee held on Tuesday night. Other committeemen present were Messrs. E. Wilcock, S. L. Kent, L. Matthews and A. S. Reeve (secretary). The Headmaster (Mr. J. w. Beattie) in his report stated inter alia that the 101 l remained steady. The Combined Te Kawau School Sports meeting was to be held on the Rongotea Sports ground on Saturday February 28, and lie asked that the school observe a holiday on this day to enable children to take part. The grounds were tidy but as there was now only one boy in the school over 11 years o£ age, consideration as to the employing of labour to assist in mowing the lawns would be neces sary. No great damage had been done as a result of the storm —the report was received. Arising from the report it was resolved to communicate with the Wanganui Education Board, pointing out that assistance was necessary to keep the grounds in order, and so that this could be done an increased grant was sought. It was agreed that the school be closed on the 28 February, and that parents he asked to assist'in transporting the children to the sports that day per medium of private cars. It was resolved to procure the necessary sand for placing under the parallel bars etc. It was reported that three pine trees had been blown down from the Town Belt area at the school, and it was resolved to write to the Manawatu County Council seeking permission to have the trees cut up for firing at the school. A discussion on the Annual Picnic was taken and it was decided to hold tlie picnic early in March on the Bulls Domain, and arrangements made accordingly. It was left in the hands of Messrs Kent and Reeve to draw up a suitable spores programme for the day. PERSONALS. Sergeant J. Powell, R.N.Z.A.F. who has recently returned from service with tlie J Force, is a visitor to the district as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Murphy. Residents will regret to learn that Gordon Young, tlie son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Young is an inmate of the Palmerston North Public. Hospital. Mesdames A. K. Drew and E. Grace are holidaying at Paraparaumu. Mr. and Mrs. F. .1. Murphy and family, have returned from a holiday spent, in Gisborne. Miss Dorothy Bennett of Palmerston North is staying with Mrs. Job Harris Snr.
