NURSING AID DROWNED IN LAKE WAKATIPU
(P.A.) Invercargill, Jan. 30. A nursing aid. Miss Norma N. Russell, aged 18, of 45 Park Street. Invercargill, lost her life in a drowning accident in Lake Wakatipu about 6.45 p.m. to-day. Miss Russell arrived at Queenstown at 5 p.m. yesterday to take up duties as a nursing aid at the Frankton Hospital. After having tea, Miss Russell, together with two - other nurses, Misses Beverley Fraser and Florence Rawlinson, vyent to the lake. Miss Russell swam a considerable distance from the shore and got into difficulties. Misses Fraser and Rawlinson swam to their companion’s aid, but were pulled under and they were forced to free themselves and return to the beach for help. When a rescue party arrived Miss Russell had disappeared. One of the other nurses wai unconscious for some time as the result of her exertions. Miss Russell’s body was recovered.
