U.S. DAVIS CUP PLAYERS ASKED TO RETURN TO AMERICA IMMEDIATELY

Recd. 6 p.m. 'Melbourne, Jan. 30 Members of the United States Davis Cup team still in Australia have been asked by the United States Lawn Tennis Association to return immediately.

The Australian Association Coumul discussed the cable from the president of the United States Association, Mr. Holcombe Ward, to Mulloy, Talbert and Brown: “You have had sufficient tournament play and we would like you to return immediately. Do not accept invitations to play in Egypt, France or any other country.” The vice-president of the Australian Association, Mr. H. A. Pitt, said that it was time for a frank discussion on the grip which sporting goods firms had on the game. It was well known that exhibition matches organised round the country were designed to promote sales of sporting goods. Exhibition matches in Queensland were approved until February 1. Mr. T. E. Robinson said that the United States Association should be advised that the American players had remained in Australia under a definite trade tie-up. Talbert stated in Bathurst that he and Mulloy would fly to New Zealand on Monday for exhibition matches

there and would then return to America.
