APPEAL IN HOUSE OF LORDS TO PRESERVE AJAX AND ACHILLES

Recd. 6 p.m. London, Jan. 29 The Earl of Glasgow told lie House of Lords during its debate on Imperial defence that it made him despair to find that the Government would not bear the upkeep <sf such famous cruisers as the Ajax and the Achilles, although able to spend millions on its nationalisation plans. He referred to the reported transfer of these cruisers to the Royal Indian Navy. First Lord Viscount Hall said that negotiations with India were not yet completed.

Earl Howe said these cruisers were hallowed in British history and he appealed to the Admiralty to reconsider their fate.
